Five Go To Eilean Shona

A place of childhood dreams, stories and adventures: a secluded island of romantic ruins, mossy forests, and overgrown trails through the heather.

No roads, no cars, no phones, no computers, no television...and in our cottage no shower!

An unspoilt haven for wildlife and plants, of golden sandy beaches and breathtaking views to the larger Hebridean islands of Muck, Eigg, Rhum and Skye.

We, five, can't wait to go back to Eilean Shona.

  1. Wow! This looks like a paradise for me! Well, everything except the shower I must admit ;-)

  2. Do they have an outdoor shower? I'd love to shower under the sky...

I'd go in a heartbeat, Lois--this looks like paradise!

  3. The weather on the west coast of Scotland is very changeable. One minute rain, the next hail and snow, the next glorious sunshine. Many times all happen at once. These photos were all taken during the sunny spells...but it was still chilly. So Dawn, a midnight shower or bathe in the sea would be wonderful, but I think I will have to try that next time, during the Summer months.

The photos do not do the scenery justice. It truly is a little bit of paradise. Only two people live on the island full time. There are six cottages scattered around the island (mostly just sleeping two people) and there is the large house which at the time we were there had a few artists in residence. Our car was parked on the mainland near the castle and we and our supplies were taken over in a little boat. A lovely break from everything!

  5. Certainly seemed 'unbelievable' when we awoke the first morning to see a stag standing in front of the porch, on a quiet walk along the beach at sunset we saw some sea otters and a late night silent vigil saw a Pine Marten out the kitchen window...
