Edinburgh Contemporary Crafts and Handmade PR

From 'design led upholstery & textiles' to 'blazing a trail through the Scottish knitwear industries', it certainly was an evening of 'handmade PR'! Over drinks at the gorgeous offices of Edinburgh's dynamic PR company, Hot Tin Roof,  I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Eve Hynd and Katy Birchall about their work and Edinburgh Contemporary Crafts.

Eve Hynd is the maker behind Native Flok, working on both traditional and modern upholstery for private commissions and visual art installations. She also collaborates with other textile artists and designers such as Katy Birchall.

Katy is the designer behind the very beautiful clothing label Winston. It was an honour to meet Katy as I admired her work when she was a student at DJCAD and featured her work here on my blog.

May 2013 - A beautifully innovative range of era inspired Scottish knitwear designed for the UK market: Winston embodies the desire to embrace and appreciate classic design whilst remaining current and appropriate to the modern fashion industry.  Katy Birchall

Both artists have studios at Edinburgh Contemporary Crafts, Abbeymount: a high quality multi- disciplinary craft workshop facility.
The shared studio supports emerging and mid-career makers, encourages collaboration and cross-discipline practice and our program of courses allows the general public access to fully equipped workshops, with courses taught by skilled professionals.
Many thanks to Hot Tin Roof for a wonderful evening and reminding me that I need to get out more!

  1. This sound like an interesting evening Lois! So nice when you can mix social with business ... I believe its called networking? Amazingly enough I am connected with Eve Hynd through Pinterest. I definitely like the leggings in the picture.

    1. I had a lovely time! Yes, I like the leggings too but I don't see them in her shop so I'm not sure if they are available.
